Condolences

Condolence From: Greg and Carolyn MacArthur
Condolence: Sometimes, you meet people in your life that just have a way of becoming your friend because they are so kind and nice. This was your mother who my Jean and Harvey loved. Putting yourself out there to help people in need is not always easy but she had the amazing talent to care for all. She will be missed as the old saying. They don’t make them like that anymore fits. And that’s a bit sad. Pease

Condolence From: David and Bianca Blair
Condolence: (For Elma's son, Johnny, and her daughter, Maureen.) We rented the house next to your Mom, Elma, on King St.for one year (1987-1988). We met you, Johnny, but we did not get to meet you, Maureen. As young parents, we saw your Mom's devotion to you Johnny through your young adulthood, and we must say that your Mom spoke so proudly and lovingly of you as well, Maureen. Your father was still working in Ontario at the time and we did not have the pleasure of meeting John Sr. until we left the neighborhood and moved to Valley. We must say that your Mom treated us and our 3 young children like 'family' too... and her 'open arms attitude' extended to all we saw while we were there. She was truly a wonderful example to others of all we could ever hope to be as people in this big wide world. Your father, John, showed us that they were like "two peas in a pod". We are sure he is remembered for his loving nature and considerable good deeds as well. ( We loved that he would drive all the way to Valley on Christmas Eve to 'visit' our children from our back yard with many "Ho..Ho..Ho"s ...which garnered a lot of excitement in our household on those evenings!) I know they are both looking down on you now with all the love and hope for you and yours to carry you forward. With our sincerest sympathy for the loss now of your very sweet Mother. David and Bianca Blair

Condolence From: Gary and Alison
Condolence: You were my dads sister and my aunt and although we only met a handful of times throughout life, you always made me feel as if you lived around the corner.
When I visited in 2005 you had a museum opened just for me because I was your nephew from Scotland, we did a two person tour of a coal mine in Springfield and watched the Atlantic bore rush in from the sea. You showed me Pictou and Peggy’s Cove and it was amazing.
When my dad died in 2009 you came over and we spent time together reflecting on his and your life. You told me many things about him that I didn’t know and I will always crush those memories, especially his time in Canada.
In 2010 when I visited Canada with Alison I took her to all the places you showed me and we spent 9 fantastic days with you. We spent two months in Canada and America spending time with you and recalling past times and stories were just amazing.
Your humour, love, acceptance and stories will stay with me forever. From my first memory of you and Uncle John on a beach in Fife when I was 8 years old to our last meeting in 2010 you were forever in our thoughts.
Rest in peace Aunt Elma and I’m sure my dad will be so happy to see you again.

Condolence From: Brian and Millie
Condolence: It was a privilege to be in Elma's company, when I did her hair at her apartment for a number of years. She became a role model as she shared her stories and in the way that she chose to live out her life in her latter years. I met many of her family and friends on the occasion of her 90th birthday. The atmosphere celebrated the woman she was with laughter and memories. She was able to bring the best of the past into the present. That was truly a gift to us all.
I claim that she was Immaculate Conception's unofficial greeter. She sat near the side entrance and I was only one of her many friends who would stop and speak to her as we came in. Our last words were about a shopping spree that she had been on, the fun she had and what she bought. She lived her life with enthusiasm until the end. She was easy to love. Both Brian (often a chauffeur) and I will miss seeing and talking with her. Our sincere condolences. Brian and Millie Russell

Condolence: Our condolences to Maureen, Johnny and family. We and our family (David&Susan) lived across the road on King St for approx 15 years before we came back to Ont. During that time we kept in touch by phone, dropping to see Elma when we were in Truro and mail- just received a letter from Elma last week. Great memories and so sad to hear Elma has passed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time, we will never forget them..
