Obituary for Bruce Moore

Bruce Moore
Moore, Bruce Arthur - Age 66, Valley. It is with great sadness that we announce Bruce's passing on November 5, 2022, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Nobody loved life as much as Bruce. Had it been his choice, he would have continued to live life as he always did, to the fullest. No matter what stage he was at in his life, he always felt a great
amount of joy, satisfaction and a sense of purpose in everything he did.

Born on October 29,1956, in Truro, he was the son of Rex and Shirley Moore. He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Nancy (Murphy) Moore; their children, Robert Moore (Evie), Mary Sutow (Patrick); grandchildren, Elijah, Moire, Asa, William, and Emily. He is also survived by siblings, Brenda Setterland and Carol Morrison; many nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, and countless friends and neighbours who will remember him with great fondness.

Bruce was a natural comedian and loved to make people laugh with his stories. They were often
true but told with a good dose of exaggeration. He had a quick wit and perfect timing. Somehow,
he could get away with funny, smart-ass remarks or speaking his mind without offending anyone.
His crazy antics garnered lots of laughs too. Bruce accomplished in one life-cut short, what would take a whole community to achieve. He had the leadership skills to involve and include others in many endeavours. People bought into his ideas, journeys, projects and celebrations without hesitation because of his enthusiasm and because they loved being with him. His energy was infectious; he loved people and he loved life. This held true in his many years as a Scout and Venturer leader at First United Church, in his volunteer contributions, to our community of Valley, to his participation on numerous treks and river runs with "the boys" to the Eastern Arctic and rivers such as the Nahanni and Stikine Rivers in northern Canada and to his teaching career.

Teaching came naturally for Bruce. After he graduated from the Forest Ranger School in
Fredericton, he worked in the woods for a time. He was first hired at the Commercial Safety
College to teach silviculture and then transferred to the Community College in Springhill, during
which time he earned his teaching license. The work he was most proud of involved his development of the Forestry component of the Occupational Preparation Program at Westville High School. Nothing brought him more satisfaction and pride than hauling a class of rag-tag teenagers out to the woods in the pouring rain or in the dead of winter to work in the woods. There was no doubt that they learned how to work.

Bruce became an accomplished carpenter over the years. He built our family home from the bottom
up, including the finish work inside. He didn't stop there, he taught woodworking in the evenings
and was forever helping friends and neighbours with their projects and chores. Never one to stop
learning, Bruce could turn a lathe, throw a pot, tie a fly, plank a salmon, or bake bread to mention a few of his many talents. He built a load of furniture, a canoe, and a pram to haul behind our sailboat.

The family would like to thank Dr. Elsawy, Emily Sarty, Dr. Andrea Kew, the Hematology Team at the QEII Oncology Unit as well as the Palliative Care Team and the Medical Day Unit at CEHHC. We have found solace in the outpouring of love from our friends and family.

Donations may be made in Bruce’s memory to the IWK Foundation (Charlie MacDougall Endowment Fund for Cancer Research). Please consider donating your precious gift of blood.

Cremation has taken place. Visitations will be held on Friday, November 11th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS. A funeral service will be held on November 12th at 11am in the First United Church, 711 Prince Street, Truro, NS with Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Webcasting will begin at 10:58am (AST). Interment will take place at a later date. Condolences to the family may be made by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
