Obituary for Catherine "Cathie" Hawco-Murray

Catherine “Cathie” Mary Hawco Murray, Masstown

The family of Cathie (Hawco) Murray, age 66, of Masstown, are saddened to announce her passing on November 12, 2022 as a result of Lewy Body Dementia. Born in Stephenville, NL she was the oldest daughter of Philip and Anne (Best) Hawco.

Cathie’s greatest joy in life was her girls, her three daughters and her two granddaughters. Her father was a small business owner and instilled a strong work ethic in her. She applied this later in life while helping her husband John with his business, Murray’s Apiary. She took great pride in maintaining their property in Masstown and loved to entertain company. Her girls will always remember the special cakes that she would decorate for their birthdays and other special occasions. John will miss his co-pilot who loved to go for drives and day trips with him. We will all miss her delicious baking, cooking and her kind, giving spirit. She has given us a lifetime of wonderful memories and will forever be in our hearts. Predeceased by her mother Anne and brother Kevin.

Cathie is survived by her father Philip; husband John; daughters Carrie, Christa (Chris) and Courtney (Scott); granddaughters Kaitlyn and Elizabeth; sisters Sharon (Sherman), Lorraine and Maureen; brother Ken (Isabell); mother and father-in-law Pat and Bob Murray; sister-in-law Nancy Reid; many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the friends who have come to visit and spend time with Cathie over the last year and also the Doctors, nurses and the continuing care workers who helped care for Cathie at home, in the hospital and at Cedarstone Enhanced Care.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, November 15th from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at The Peg, (across from the Masstown Market; access off Trans Canada Highway 104 at Exit 12 or from Highway # 2, Masstown). Donations in memory of Cathie can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, the IWK Foundation, or the Recreation and Music therapy fund at Cedarstone Enhanced Care.
