Obituary for Wendy Locke (McCoul)

Wendy Locke (McCoul)
There are some who bring a light so great to the world,
that even after they have gone, the light remains.

Locke, Wendy Lue - Age 71, of Brookfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 15, 2022, in the QEII Health Center. Born in Truro, she was the eldest daughter of the late Aubrey and Sylvia (Kelly) McCoul.

Wendy worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses over the years, including her husband’s, Locke’s Marine. She enjoyed balancing numbers and took pride in her work. She made lasting friendships with the women she worked with over the years; Inez, Doreen and Jan to name a few. Wendy enjoyed sewing, whether it was sewing curtains for friends and family, doing alterations for nieces and grandchildren, or stitching one of her beautiful quilts. She always had a project on the go. She had a creative eye for organizing and decorating, making her home, gardens, and cottage beautiful.

Not one to sit idle, Wendy could be found walking, biking with family on the trail, taking drives with her husband, Rick, weekly trips to Costco with sister, Bev, having coffee with sisters-in-law, Marg and Jane, supper with friends, Margie and Debbie, trips to Florida and Dominican with friends, going to country music concerts and road trips to New Brunswick, PEI, Ontario and Newfoundland with family. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan, attending as many soccer, hockey, x-country and track meets as she could. She enjoyed her time spent with Rick, family and friends at the cottage in Ecum Secum, as long as it wasn’t foggy. Whether it be beating everyone at crib and washer toss, lounging on the deck or giving paddleboarding a try at the age of 70, Wendy enjoyed life to the fullest.

Wendy is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Rick Locke; children, Julie (Clint) and Brett (Crystal); grandchildren, Kelsey and Abigail; sisters, Beverly Monk and Kelley (Todd) Boyd; brothers, Robert (Brenda) McCoul and Darren (Lori) McCoul; sisters-in-law, Marg (Brad) Little, Jane (Brian) Kenrick; brother-in-law, Stephen (Krista) Locke; as well as several nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all.

She was predeceased by her mother, Sylvia (Kelly) McCoul and father, Aubrey McCoul. As well as her mother-in-law, Verna (Matheson) Locke and father-in-law, Donnie Locke.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the surgeons and nurses of the Cardiac ICU at the QEII for their compassionate care during the last week.

Donations may be made in memory of Wendy to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, Brookfield Terry Fox Committee or a charity of choice.

Cremation has taken place.
