Obituary for Angela Parker-Brown

Angela Parker-Brown
Parker-Brown, Angela Marie -Age 50, Truro, NS

It is with immense sadness that the family of Angela, “Ang,” “Angie” Parker-Brown announces her passing of ALS, on February 17, 2023. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family and a dear close friend by her side, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born on April 23, 1972, in Digby, NS, she was a daughter of Melvin Wayne “Sonny” and Carol (Paris) Parker.

She is survived by her thirteen year old twin daughters, Paris and Parker at home and her fur babies, Sawyer and Sebastian; her parents, Melvin Wayne “Sonny” and Carol (Paris) Parker, Truro; sister, Beverly (Parker) Maxwell (Freeman), Truro; brother, Wayne Melvin Parker (Dona), Sackville; her nieces and nephews, Jessica Maxwell (Myles), Waverly, Tyler Maxwell (Jessica), Truro, Lindsay Roland (Mitchel), Yellowknife, Kobe Borden, Edmonton, Tori Parker, Halifax, great nieces, Willow and Evelyn Maxwell-Surette, Truro, Ellie and Elija Roland, Yellowknife, and many cousins and her Aunt Shirley, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She loved and adored her first fur baby and companion, Sacha.

Ang worked for the Department of Justice as a Court Reporter for over 20 years. She then went on to the Supreme Court as a Judicial Administrator, but only after a few short months, she retired due to her official diagnosis of ALS in 2018, which started in 2016.

As a single mother, Ang was raising her two beautiful daughters, whom she loved dearly and lived every minute of her life for them, while also enjoying her life to the fullest. Reading was a strong passion of Angie’s. In earlier years, she was a very spontaneous and adventurous person and loved to travel with friends. After she had her daughters and when they were old enough to venture out, she bundled them up in the car and off they would go to visit friends or go on day trips, and they loved it. She was fortunate enough to travel with the girls to Disney Land - believe it or not, this was a spontaneous trip, only our Ang could pull off. She was able to do most of her travelling before her official diagnosis of ALS and even with that, still did all she wanted to do including going to Salt Lake City for one last travel adventure, which she attended an ALS Conference and gained a wealth of knowledge to help her live and navigate this horrific disease.

Ang devoted her life to her girls and to her friends and family. She was a true inspiration to everyone that encountered her and would not let life knock her down. Even when confined to a wheelchair with no movement, she found positivity through her eyes and wrote her book, Writing With My Eyes-Staying Alive While Dying. This was a major accomplishment that has touched the lives of so many. Writing With My Eyes-Staying Alive While Dying, allowed Ang to earn the title of an Author, of which she was tremendously proud and became a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, in honour of her writing. She accomplished so much in so little time and showed us all how to live a “Full Capacity Sparkle” life.

Special thank you to Angie’s personal care givers, Melissa, Donna, Joanne, Ruth, Tina, Tara and Dona who provided exceptional care to Angie and allowed her to remain in her own home and an extra special thank you to a special group we call, “The Crew” - Tammy, Tara, Sonya, Dionne, Krista and Tessie and also to the love and support by her special friends, Ian and Melanie Nettleton, and to her massage therapist and friend, Mary-lee Robeson and Earth Angels, especially Evelyn. Also thank you to the nurses and doctors of the ICU, Colchester East Hants Health Centre, along with the VON Staff, the Palliative Care Team and the ALS Clinic in Halifax for their love, compassion and support shown to Ang and her family during this difficult time. Thank you to the staff and students of Ècole Acadienne de Truro, the support you have given to Angie and the girls has been exceptional. Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to ensure Angie and her girls were able to concentrate on each other and live life to fullest under the circumstances. Your kindness and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. A very special thank you to Taylor from Colchester Community Funeral Home, for helping us navigate through the arrangement process. Your kind demeanor made us feel so at ease.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Angie’s memory may be made to her daughters’ trust fund - c/o Bev Maxwell, Zion United Baptist Church or Apex Scholarship Fund, c/o 203 Prince Street, Truro, NS.
