Obituary for Stephen Higgins

Stephen Higgins
Stephen “Steve” Grant Higgins, 61, of Truro, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, February 25, 2023. Steve was the son of the late Grant and Marilyn (Boyd) Higgins.

Steve loved to socialize and knew almost every person he saw, in one way or another. He also remembered everyone’s name. Steve lived most of his life in Lower Onslow, and then moved to Parkland, where he lived amongst a community of friends. He was never home and was always off on adventures, often being seen driving his wheelchair downtown at full tilt.

Steve loved his coffees, reading and chatting with friends online. He’d often challenge friends to an arm wrestle or entertain them with a good joke. He loved eating out at restaurants like Murphy’s, Bistro 22, the Glengarry, Tim’s and the Truro mall food court. Steve had his own car for many years and loved going for drives, on his own and with his beloved Grammie Higgins. And in recent years, Steve went to the Adult Day Program and absolutely loved everyone there.

Steve will always be remembered by his two little sisters, Kenda and Tonda. As well, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Wade and stepmother, Jill. He loved his nieces, Kayla and Sara; nephews, Zach, Alex and Brandon; step-siblings, Todd, Tracey and Tara, along with their children. Steve is also survived by his Uncle Benny, Aunt Grace and Aunt Heather, several cousins, and even more friends.

Steve’s family would like to thank the Parkland team, in particular Connie and Robin, the VON Adult Day Program, and Colchester Hospital staff. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve’s name may be made to CARMA Colchester, a charity that supports cat adoption.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 3 from 6 - 8:30 p.m., with a celebration of Steve’s life on Saturday, March 4 at 2p.m. all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Marty Clark-Ettinger, DLM presiding. Webcasting will begin at 1:58pm (AST). Condolences to the family may be made by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
