Obituary for Allen Brown

Allen Brown
Brown, Allen Lloyd – Age 63, North River. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and Bumpy, Allen Lloyd Brown on March 2, 2023, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with his family by his side. Born in Pugwash on September 17, 1959, he was a son of Lloyd Brown and the late Ella Jean (Allen) Brown.

Allen went to school in Pugwash, and then attended Springhill Vocational. In the early 90s, he went to the College of Cape Breton for Bus and Transport. Allen was a member of the St. John’s United Church in Wallace as well as a member of the Wallace Masonic Lodge No. 76.

Allen spent many years in the bus and transport industry before opening his own welding business. He then moved on to start Alken Enterprises in Hilden where he rented a shop and ran tractor trailers and dump trucks and also employed many people. Allen moved the business to Wallace, where he spent thirteen years acquiring new and old customers, as well as many friends, with the most recent move for the company, to Debert three years ago.

Allen is survived by the love of his life and wife of 41 years, Brenda (Patriquin); daughters, Kelly Collette, North River, Nicole (Paul) Silva, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Addison Collette, Briella Collette, Gracie Silva, Blake Silva; father, Lloyd Brown, Wallace Bay; brother, Kenny (Laura) Brown, Truro; sisters; Linda Brown, Ottawa, Debbie (Trevor) Isnor, PEI; godson, Danny Patriquin; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law and lifelong friends.

Besides his mother, Allen was predeceased by step-mother, Annie Brown; paternal grandparents, Edward and Myrtle Brown; maternal grandparents, Lesley and Velma Allen; parents-in-law, Truman and Freda Patriquin; several aunts and uncles.

If anyone knew Allen, they knew he was a family man. He always put his wife, daughters and grandkids ahead of himself. He was a good provider and a hard worker. Considered a “Jack of All Trades”, he could fix anything, even by giving instructions over the phone. The family never had to call a mechanic, carpenter or plumber. He was always willing to help anyone in need.

The family would like to thank Medic Day, Palliative Care and Hematology nurses, Dr. Rowe and Dr. Henderson at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for the excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an education fund for his grandchildren – c/o Brenda Brown or e-transfer b.brown2821@gmail.com. His children’s education was very important to Allen. Bumpy wanted to ensure that his grandchildren have the same opportunities.

A visitation will take place on Sunday, March 5th, from 2-4pm with a funeral service taking place on Monday, March 6th at 1pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Rev. Connie McNamara officiating. Reception will follow the service. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.Colchester Community.com
