Obituary for Joan Kellough (MacKay)
Joan Kellough (MacKay) - Age 85, quietly passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 19, 2023, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, John Kellough; father, John R E MacKay and mother, Marion (Gunn) MacKay and sister, Elizabeth Pauline (MacKay) Hayman (Milton).
Joan is survived by her sister, Margaret (MacKay) Schulz (Jim); nieces, Daphne Hayman Murray (Gary) and Neva Hayman and nephews, Doug Schulz (Wanda) and Derrick Schulz (Jen).
Joan grew up in Earltown and attended high school in Tatamagouche where she was the captain of her basketball team. She was also the team captain for the NS provincial basketball team. Later she went on to nursing school in the Halifax Children’s Hospital and graduated in 1957. Joan worked as a registered nurse for many years until she and John retired and moved to Valley, NS.
In lieu of flowers and to honour Joan’s memory and love of children, please consider a donation to the IWK children’s hospital or to the Palliative Care Unit, who took such wonderful care of Joan in her final days.
A service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, March 28th in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS with Rev. April Hart officiating. Reception to follow. Interment at a later date in Watson Cemetery.
