Obituary for Leila Millman

Leila Millman
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Leila Millman, age 60, on April 27, 2023. She passed peacefully in her sleep in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro with her partner by her side. Leila had lived with cancer for many years prior to her passing.

Leila is survived by her treasured partner of four years, Bonnie Delaney; father, Alan Millman; sister, Faun Millman Doctor; Aunt Paula Millman; Uncle and Aunt Jack and Barb Yablon; James Pye, who was like a son to her (Orillia, ON); nephew, Reginald Wilson Jr. and niece, Serena Wilson.

Leila was predeceased by her mother, Ellen Millman (nee Yablon); sister, Eva Millman and loving companion of 40 years, Brenda Keddy.

Leila was a lifelong avid learner and she succeeded at anything she put her hand to whether it be cards, magic tricks, debating, fostering cats, watch repair or antique dealing. Throughout her lifetime, Leila tried her hand at many interesting careers which included working as a dealer in the Casino Industry both in Halifax and in Orillia, ON, as well as creating and teaching a training course for Roulette and Blackjack. She also acquired her education in Microsoft Programming and went on to work for the OPP. Toward the end of her working career, Leila owned and cooked for her own restaurant in Aurora, ON, called Caddy Shack. Customers would travel for miles for her hamburgers and carnitas. She returned to Nova Scotia in 2018 to be closer to friends and family. Her intent had been to open a restaurant in Truro. Sadly, this did not occur as a result of a terminal cancer diagnosis.

To those lucky enough to have met Leila, she had a large presence and an intense love for life. She cared for humanity and had a very generous and loving spirit. It was recently, while in the Victoria General having surgery, that Leila undertook the project of having four cots donated so that in future, families did not have to sleep in chairs while supporting and worrying about family members. Leila was an amazing cook, and nothing pleased her more than preparing food for her loved ones.

She will be missed by her family, friends and five cats, Coco, Joe, Celeste, Mischief and Kit.

This is not good-bye, Dear Friend; until we meet again, you are forever in our hearts.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences are available at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
