Obituary for
Phyllis McCully (Totten)
McCully, Phyllis Dorothy – Age 95, Debert. It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis McCully announces her passing on July 23, 2023, at the age of 95 years.
Phyllis is survived by her only child, Doug and many nieces and nephews.
Mum was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; parents, Joseph and Jessie Totten; two brothers, Earle and Russell; two sisters, Ethel and Hazel.
She was a lifetime member of the United Church of Canada and Ladies Auxiliary of Debert United Church. She worked tirelessly at many suppers and events in the community. Mum’s greatest joy was the famous chowder luncheon held at the Debert Firehall every May for many years.
Mum had the most wonderful sense of humour and spoke her mind freely, which made people laugh.
There are many people to thank who took care of Mum in the last few years of her life. The home support of the VON and the nursing staff, Jen, Leona, Charlene, and Laura visited Mum every day for the last four and a half years of her life. The VON are all truly angels sent from God. Thank you to the palliative care team, Dr. Smith and nurse, Angela. Last but not least, thank you to Dr. Bruce Philips, who has been Mum’s family physician for over 35 years.
Donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to the Lung Association or Cobequid United Church.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27th from 1pm until time of service at 2pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS, Marty Clark-Ettinger, DLM officiating. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com.
