Joan Elizabeth Slack – Age 91, Debert. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joan on December 18th, 2023. She was a treasured Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

Born at home in Bass River, on January 13, 1932, she was one of four daughters of the late Roy and Blance (Vance) McLaughlin.

She later moved to Debert where she met her husband-to-be, Gordon Slack. They were married for 52 years.

Joan worked as a Nurses Aid in the Annex Hospital in Truro and later moved to the Colchester Regional Hospital where she continued her work as a Nurses Aid and later in the CSR department.

She loved socializing with her friends and close neighbors. Joan was a member of the Garden Club for many years. She always enjoyed a drop in visit and cherished spending time with her family.

Joan is survived by sons, Gary Black and Joe Slack (Toby); daughters, Susan Legge and Josephine Babineau (Gerald); grandchildren, Yan and Melodie, Patrick, Levi, Mackie, Zoe, Jenna, Olivia, Alec; step grandchildren, Devon and David; sixteen great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; her sisters, Phyllis, Kathleen, Julia; son-in-law, Donnie Legge.

We would like to share our appreciation of Heather for her genuine compassion while caring for Mom over the past three and a half years. As well, we would like to give a special thank you to VON and Palliative Care.

A celebration of life will be held in The Peg in Masstown on January 13th from 1:00 – 4:00pm. Interment to follow at a later date.
