Obituary for Everett White

Everett White
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, James “Everett” White, on Friday, January 12, 2024, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro after a recent hospitalization.

Everett was born on August 14, 1941, in Truro. He married the love of his life, Della, on November 16, 1958, and has kept a faithful watch over her every day since. She was his world and he was hers. Together they shared a wonderful life.

Everett was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying every chance he could get to go fishing or hunting depending on the season. He enjoyed tinkering around the house and property and in his younger years, always had a project on the go. Gardening was another one of his passions, putting in his own every year and making sure there was enough veggies stored up to last well into the winter months.

Everett took his work seriously and was a valued employee of what was first, Riversdale Lumber then Sproule and finally J.D. Irving Lumber Mill in Valley for 38 years.

He was a dedicated family man and made sure to visit everyone he held close. He and Della enjoyed taking off on road trips, travelling the back roads for hours scouting out wildlife, enjoying the beautiful scenery. They wound up in a lot of unexpected places, but Everett always knew where they were and how to get back home.
Everett enjoyed music and was well known for taking in an old-time country fiddle dance or two on the weekends in his younger years. He was also a well-known bowler in the Friday night’s men league and Tuesday night Stanfield’s league for years in Truro.

He loved to make people laugh, always teasing, joking and telling stories to see people smile. His story telling will surely live on through us all.

Everett will live on through his wife, Della Henrietta (Barkhouse) White, Valley; children, James Everett White Jr, Saint John, NB and Deborah Faye (Scott) Marriott, Belmont; grandchildren, Amanda “Mandy” (Matt) McCabe, Micheal Gamble, Lynn White and John White; great grandchildren, Callie, Grayson, Koby, Kenzey, Kylie, Lexi, Ava; great, great grandchild, Keith; siblings, Frances White, Bible Hill and Carol (Gary) Karlowski, Springdale, AR as well as several nephews, nieces and cousins. A special thank you to nephew, Stephen Custance, Valley, for helping Everett out these past few years.

Everett was predeceased by both of his parents, father, Charles Albert White and mother, Bertha Esther (Ripley) White; siblings, Rayburn (Joyce) White, Ainslie White, Esther (Harold) Fox and Stella White.
Everett’s family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and nurses on the 3rd floor D wing of the hospital.

Donations in Everett’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

A graveside service will take place in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley at a later date.
