Obituary

Tobin, Donna Darlene – 76, Bass River, passed away peacefully at home in Bass River surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 6, 2019. She was born on December 18, 1942, the daughter of the late Ray and Verna Sobey in Summerside, PEI. She resided with her husband, Fred and their children in Bedeque, PEI for many years. Donna worked as a phone operator, canner operator and eventually, a line worker at McCain Foods. In 1991, Fred bought his own fishing gear and became the sole support for their family and Donna retired. After she and Fred both fully retired in 1993, they sold their home and moved to Bass River to enjoy Mom's love of nature and Fred's love of hunting and fishing. They both lived peacefully in Bass River until Fred's passing in February of 2012. Donna is survived by son, Raymond Fredrick, Bass River; daughters, Verna Darlene (Peter) Palmer and Sherry Lynn Nicholson both of Summerside, PEI; sisters, Estelle (Ian) Calvert, Selby, UK, Deanie (John) LaPointe, Little Bay, NL; brothers, David (Kathy) Sobey and Craig, both of Summerside, PEI. Also survived by several grandchildren, great grand-children, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Fred; son, Wayne; sisters, Lynn (Dale) Crossman and Barbara (Albert) Dunstall; brother, Wayne (Flo) Sobey. Special thanks to daughter, Darlene and sister, Deanie for keeping the house a clean and sterile environment for us. Also to Dr.'s Karen Ewing, Mark Taylor, Murali Rajaraman and the other doctors, nurses and staff at both Colchester East Hants Health Centre and the QEII, to the VON and Red Cross. Extra special thank you to her grand-daughter, Rachel Marie Tobin who worked tirelessly with VON to ensure Donna received the best medical care and love possible right up to her passing. Cremation has taken place with no visitation or service by her request. Interment at a later date in the cemetery in Searletown, PEI. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
