Ferguson, Janet Diane – 86, Truro. We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our mother, Janet Diane Ferguson (nee Howatt) on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by the children who adored her. She was born on February 8, 1933 to the late Whitfield and Doris (Miller) Howatt in Victoria, PEI. Janet left home at seventeen, determined to see the world. She made it no further than Truro where she met Arleigh Ferguson and her plans changed. They married in 1953 and started a life and a family together culminating in six children, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She worked many different jobs outside of the home to help support her family but her favourite was at Stan Hanes Transfer, giving her the opportunity to work with her father, whom she respected and admired. Work, however, was not where she found her fulfillment. That came through her role as a mother, with her children providing her with her greatest joy. There was nothing she wouldn’t have done for them. Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband, Arleigh and her son-in-law, Bryan Roberts. She is survived by her sister Heather Dalrymple and her six children; Tanya (Stanley) Zwicker, Barry Ferguson, Pamela (Jim) Hutchinson, Dale Roberts (Gary Hyland), David (Michele) Ferguson, Marlo Ferguson (Craig Wallace). Janet will be greatly missed by her feline companion, Cushy, whom she spoiled beyond reason. Special thanks to her wonderful neighbours, Elsie, Kenny, and Joan whose friendship and support were so greatly appreciated. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Palliative Care Unit at the CEHHC for their kindness. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm in St. John’s Anglican Church, 23 Church St., Truro with the Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Reception will follow in the Kaulback Hall. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online condolences are available by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com

Dear Tanya and family, Your mother was always kind when I was at your house many years ago. A mother's love is the strongest and greatest love there is and it remains with us long after they leave this world. Sending you all my deepest sympathy. Cathy Baker

I have wonderful memories of my school year 1970-71, boarding with the Ferguson family on Pleasant Street, while a student at Teachers College. Memories of kids' antics, and mother's correcting and laughing along with them. Memories of puppy dogs with diapers, canned beans heated in the oven to fool boarders who expected home-baked beans, being told I could do my own laundry if she didn't have to bother with it - and then being allowed to use the dryer if it was a rainy Saturday. Oh, and that fire gong in the down-stairs hall! Week-days, I was a boarder along with the others, but because I was from too far away to go home on the week-ends, Janet soon adopted me as part of the family on the week-ends. Treasured memories of you all - my sympathies. I am sorry, I wasn't home and didn't have internet so didn't get the message until a day late. Feels like I've lost a family member. Victor McCullough

Dear Pam and Family: I had never met your mom but remember talking to you on numerous occasions about her and your visits to Truro to see her. I too lost my mom, only five short weeks ago , so I know the pain and emptiness you are all feeling. I think of my mom everyday and take some comfort in knowing she is not suffering and is at peace. I wish that for all of you. The wonderful memories you have will keep you going, one day at a time. Love and Prayers, Jeanine Clague(Truro)
