Obituary for Lee Higgins

Higgins, Lee Curtis- 85, of Crowe’s Mills, passed away suddenly at his home on May 27, 2019. He was a son of the late Osborne Higgins and Alma McLellan. Lee is survived by long time special friend and travelling partner, Lorraine Colpitts and her children, Anne Welcher, Andy Colpitts and Linda Cook. He is also survived by his siblings, Iris Barnhill, Doris McNutt, Ross (Mary Lou), Ethel (Fraser) Halliday, Ella (Gary) Brown and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Tom Barnhill and Leland McNutt and nephew, Don Halliday. Lee spent his whole working life at Higgins Lumber Mill. He was a founding member of the Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade (OBFB). He volunteered many years for St. John Ambulance, the Colchester Historical Society, the Colchester Regional Hospital and the CNIB Transportation Service. He was also an active member of the Golden K Club. Lee enjoyed travelling, local history, curling and spending time in the woods. He will be long remembered for his hearty laugh. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. A Fire Fighter’s Tribute will precede the funeral service all held in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro on Sunday, June 2nd at 2:30p.m with Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating.
