Obituary for Edith Oulton (Adams)

OBITUARY - Edith Evelyn (Adams) Oulton

It is with great sadness that we share the peaceful passing of our remarkable Mother - Edie Oulton, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre on Sunday, June 9. Born in Montreal on July 5, 1921 to James and Edith Adams, Mom completed her education and went on to work as a secretary for the Naval Stores Officer at Vickers Naval Yard in Montreal. It was here she met and fell in love with her husband to be -Bob. They married in 1944 and lived in Quebec City until the end of WW2. When Dad was hired by Kelloggs Canada and given the territory of Northern NS they moved to Truro where Mom was to live for the next 74 years!
Mom immersed herself in small town living and joined First United Church, where she was always active in Unit K of the UCW. Mom was a class volunteer when we attended Willow Street School and was always baking for school sales, making costumes for the Christmas concerts, or whatever else needed to be done. Also active in the Hospital Auxiliary and the Truro Figure Skating Club - Mom was always open to taking on new jobs and doing them well.
She faced all challenges head on and found solutions. She was a very resourceful person - a great cook, seamstress, gardener, wife and Mother. She continued to do her daily crosswords and you couldn't fault her on trivia, details of family events, world news etc. When in her 80's she learned to play the ukulele and joined the theatre group at Parkland - she was full of surprises!
She and Dad enjoyed wintering in Florida for over 20 years - which is what Mom would say contributed to her longevity. She was 1 month shy of celebrating her 98th birthday and lived independently at Edinburgh Hall until 6 weeks ago.
Mom is survived by her son Kenneth (Paulina) and daughter Lynn (Peter) all of Rothesay NB and grand-daughter Terri Welsh of Courtenay BC. Sister-in-law Joan Parker of Barrie Ont. and nieces Elizabeth (David) Calam of Regina, Bronwen (David) Robinson of Leeds, Eng., Mary (Peter) Morris of Bedford Eng., and nephew Robert Parker of Barrie Ont. Mom was predeceased by her husband Bob, brother Alan Adams, sister-in-law Avanwy Adams, nephew James Adams.
There will be a celebration of Mom's life at 2 PM on Wednesday, June 26 in the Gallery (ground level) at Edinburgh Hall - 356 Young St.,Truro. Please bring your stories and memories to share. Private internment will take place at Watson Cemetery later in the summer.
