Obituary for Robert "Bobby" Matheson

Robert Carleton Matheson “Bobby” – Bible Hill, passed away June 11, 2019 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. He was the eldest son of Carl and Dora (Patriquin) Matheson. Born in Perron, Quebec on February 25, 1937. Returning to Nova Scotia as a child, Bobby was raised in Truro and Londonderry. He spent his entire working life with the CN Railway where he developed many lifelong friendships. He and his wife, Patsy (Slack) raised four children; Cleo (Joe Johnston), Terry (Gayle) Matheson, Mark (Julia) Matheson, Sonya (Gordon Murray); also surviving are ten grandchildren, Stephanie Carpentier (Luke Searle), Kaylee and Lindy Johnston, Lauren, Clare and Maria Matheson, Robert and Nichole Matheson, Emma and Alexander Murray; two great grandchildren, Maximus Searle, Catherine Searle. Bobby is survived by four brothers, Gary, Glenn, Randy and Robin. He was predeceased by his father, Carl Matheson; mother, Dora Matheson; brother, Trueman Matheson.

Bobby enjoyed many things in life and was passionate about all of his interests. Baseball was a huge joy for him, lasting into his 70s, when he coached and played old timers’ ball. Hunting was a huge part of Bobby’s life. Being in the woods and enjoying nature gave him so much pleasure. If he wasn’t playing ball or fishing, you would find Bobby in his garden and his garden was a source of pride. He truly loved to battle weeds and watch things grow. Skiing in the winter everyday he could was a joy for Bobby. He loved his family, his brothers and found great pleasure in his many friends. Bobby was a happy man.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, June 14th from 7-9pm with a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 15th at 2pm; both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Reception will follow. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Society or charity of choice.
