Obituary for Shirley Mahar (Clyke)

Mahar (Clyke), Shirley Marie – 81, Truro. Passed away peacefully on June 26, 2019. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of late Walter and Dorothy Clyke. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Dawn Duck (Michael); son, Thomas Strang (Tracey) and grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney and Delaney. Shirley was one of a family of nineteen. She leaves behind sisters, Evelyn Borden (Charles), Geraldine, Margaret, Kathleen, Marion, Barbara and brothers, George, Darrel (Ann), Richard, Benjamin (Vi) and Joseph. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Howard, who lovingly took care of her every day up until his recent passing. Shirley was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness since 1969. She loved sharing in the house-to-house ministry and shared her faith with anyone who would listen. Shirley lived her whole life in Truro where she was well known in the area for all of her domestic work with various families. She will be remembered by her love towards the children and the families for whom she worked. She always had a real zest for life taking part in all kinds of sports well into her 70’s. She loved skating, hockey, basketball and dancing of all styles. She had a big heart for dogs of any size and there was almost always a dog in her home, but she had a strong dislike for cats. She will be missed by family… by friends… and by all with whom she shared a piece of her life. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 2pm on Saturday, June 29, 2019 with Mr. David Spence officiating in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. The immediate family would like to give a very heartfelt thank you to all of the nurses and staff at Wynn Park Villa who made her feel like family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Watchtower and Bible Tract Society of Canada.
