Obituary for Frank "Bert" Gibbs

Gibbs, Frank “Bert” Bertram – 92, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully at home on January 14, 2020. Dad will be sadly missed by his five children; Lloyd (Anna), Robert (Sheila), Francis (Maureen), Shauna and Jane (Eric); grandchildren, Andrea, Scott, Heidi, Curtis, Becky, David, Ben, Nicholas, Diana and several great grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly and shared lots of laughter with over many years. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Ina (nee Bates), the love of his life, also his five sisters and three brothers and a grandson, Jamie Gibbs. Born in 1927, Dad moved from P.E.I. to Truro in 1943 where he worked and raised his family for the remainder of his life. He was a natural at carpentry and had his own construction company for many years before becoming a superintendent for the N.S. Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1992. Dad was an avid camper in his early years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his boys and in later years, travelling and RV-ing with his wife and daughters. He enjoyed nothing more than a good game of canasta with Ina or a rousing game of cribbage with anyone, especially his children. He was a fierce competitor, a trait which he passed on to them which served all of his kids well in life. Dad was a faithful member of St. James Presbyterian Church in Truro. With Mom’s help, he found the Lord and took great comfort in prayer each and every day. Our family wishes to thank all of the care workers, the V.O.N. and palliative care workers who tended to his personal and medical needs for the past number of years. A special thank you to Dr. Phillips and Heather, Dr. Henderson and Lisa Weatherbee for the special attention he received at home and to MacQuarries Pharmacy staff of Bible Hill. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 20th from 1:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Andrew Campbell and Rev. Kirk MacLeod officiating, both in St. James Presbyterian Church, 725 Prince St., Truro. Donations in Bert’s memory may be made to St. James Presbyterian Church, the VON or a charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St. Truro. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
