Betts, Stephen Wayne "Bud" - Age 61, Onslow Mountain, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 at his home in Onslow Mountain. Stephen was born in Truro, NS on January 17th, 1959 to the late David "Junior" and Josephine "Susie" (Johnson) Betts. He was a hardworking, stubborn, kind and loving man who lived a full life. He always worked with his hands, spending years as a bricklayer before joining the Town of Truro's Street Department. He took pride in his work and he never passed up the opportunity to share his strong opinions on brickwork or his extensive knowledge on the proper placement of road signs. He faced every challenge head on and he always fought for what he believed in. He was tough as hell; he faced down fires, chainsaws, fist fights and broken bones and he came out of the worst of it laughing and with a new story to tell. He had a heart of gold. He would give you the shirt off his back, the food out of his fridge, and a warm and safe place to stay, all before taking his last toonie to buy you a coffee. The people in his life were his top priority. He always made time for his family and friends, filling his life with regular poker games, fishing trips and spontaneous get-togethers. He would go above and beyond to make sure his loved ones were taken care of. He once walked over eight kilometres through two feet of snow just to get the wood stove going for his family. He is survived by his daughters, Chrissy Betts, Autumn (Patrick) Naugle and Laken Betts; sons, Jagger (Jade) Betts and Dakota Betts; grandchildren, Skyler Mellroy, Keegan Mellroy, Madison Mellroy, Olivia Weatherbee, Jackson Weatherbee and Kasey Betts; sisters, Cathy Higgins and Gail (Peter) Huybers; brothers, Terry (Donna) Betts, Allan (Elaine) Betts and Craig (Paula) Betts; many nieces and nephews; his ex-wives, Sonja Custance and Juanita Priest; countless friends that were as close to him as family; his dog, Kodak, and his undying faith in the Montreal Canadiens and the Detroit Tigers. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed. A Graveside service will be held on Friday, September 25th at 3pm in Watson Cemetery, Truro, N.S.
