Obituary for Gerald "Gerry" Hamilton

HAMILTON, GERALD WILLIAM

We are saddened to announce the death of Gerald William Hamilton, born on May 15th, 1944 in Virden, Manitoba to Ray and Hazel (Bates) Hamilton.

Gerald, or “Gerry” to most, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He was a resident of Elk Court, Brookfield, N.S. for the past two years after having a stroke that left him in need of special care. He faced his disability with hope and positive thoughts, with his family by his side through these difficult times.

Gerry was a man of strong character and will always be remembered for finding humour in a good or bad situation. He loved people and was always willing to lend a helping hand to a relative, neighbour or friend.

Gerry’s working career took him to many places. As a young man, he worked at CBC in Halifax as a lighting technician, he was a salesman for a music company and a car dealership. He moved to the Annapolis Valley where he worked at Cornwallis Dairy as a salesman. He also sold cars and worked at Kings Equipment in Kentville, N.S. Later, he moved to Kingston, N.S. where he sold furniture. He returned to the Truro area and worked at Berry’s Furniture Company and resided in Hilden. He was semi-retired, working at Halifax airport for AVIS at the time of his stroke.

Gerry loved his family and spent summers camping with them and his friends. He loved the outdoors and loved snowmobiling on his Arctic Cat. He also loved cars, especially his Cadillac. He loved the game of golf and spent many hours on the golf course.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Pauline (Bennett) Hamilton of Bible Hill. They married on September 9, 1967 in Kentville, N.S. Also survived by his children, Corey Hamilton, Krista Hamilton (Tyson Oliver) and Glenn Hamilton of Truro and Hilden. He was Grampie to cherished grandchildren, Telsie and Alex, Courtney (Adam), Ben, Liam and Brooklynn, and Salem (Evan Matthews), Vienna and Devon McAllister of Moncton N.B. and Kage Hamilton of Bible Hill, N.S.; Great Grampie to Mya Matthews, Layla and Carter Hunt; Uncle to Kim and Willie Hamilton; many other cousins of Truro, Moncton and England. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Percy Hamilton, grandparents and many other members of the Hamilton and Bates families.

Our lives have been enriched by knowing this fine man.

Due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions, a service will be held in Bible Hill Cemetery at a later date to be announced. Thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and family who provided care for Gerry.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, where online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
