Obituary for Linda Maloney (Bernard)

Linda Maloney (Bernard)
MALONEY, Linda Mary Jane (Cookie) - 77, Millbrook, NS. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. Cookie, born July 18th, 1943, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones in prayer and song on February 14th, 2021.

She is survived by her husband of 56 plus years, “Sonny”; children, Michael (Janice), Derek (Brittany), Justine, Jillian and her eighteen grandchildren/great grandchildren; sister, Matilda; brother, Dunnan; many special nieces, nephews and godchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Tyson; mother, Mary Cope (Wally); father, Mike Bernard of Eel Ground, NB; siblings, Albert, Leitha, Nora, and Lemmie.

As many know, Cookie, along with her siblings, was a residential school survivor. She continued her studies in Moncton and was a successful business-woman for over 30 years as a talented hair stylist. After closing her doors in 1995, she accepted a position helping her fellow sisters at the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association where she became a respected advocate for equity and justice which then lead her to her final chapter, being a band councillor in her community. Her passion for her community, her trade, business and entrepreneurship enabled her to travel all over North America and Europe doing what she loved. She will be remembered for her unconditional love to everyone, grace, dedication to her family, generosity to all and her unwavering support and guidance to her many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Millbrook Community Hall, 72 Church Road, Millbrook First Nation beginning Thursday, February 18th at 2:00 pm until the time of the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated Saturday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Millbrook First Nation with Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating.
