Obituary for Elizabeth "Liz" Glass

Glass, Elizabeth Agnes – Age 66, Truro formerly of Hilden. It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Elizabeth “Liz” (Chestnut) Glass on March 11, 2021 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, NS.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Warren Stewart Charles Glass, as well as her parents, Elmer and Agnes (Cole) Chestnut; brother, Robert and sister, Judy Prodger; in-laws, Leyland and Madeline (Weatherby) Glass; brothers-in-law, Brian Glass and Lloyd Pearston.

Liz is survived by her two daughters, Lindsay MacCallum, Truro and Lisa Glass, Cole Harbour; her four grandchildren, Bryan (Brittney), Rachel and Lucas MacCallum and Leighlend Taylor; siblings, Arnold (Sally), Wolfe Island, ON, Arthur, George (Bev), Richard (Geraldine) Chestnut, Ruth Pearston, Margaret Ann (Andrew) Dauphinee and Mable (Ernie) Dickson, all of Truro as well as Aunt Jennie Perkins, Wallace; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Carol), Lindsay, ON; Ian (Linda), Tatamagouche, Hugh (Marlene), Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Theresa Glass, Onslow Mountain and Cathy Chestnut, Truro as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In her younger years, Liz enjoyed volunteering with the Knox United Church Youth Group in Brookfield and spent many years as an active member of Beta Sigma Phi where she made lifelong friendships. She enjoyed traveling all over the world but tended to gravitate towards the sun and sand of the Caribbean.

She worked at Sobeys for 31 years in both Truro locations and Zellers for many years prior to that. Most recently, she had retired and was starting to enjoy the freedom that retirement brings, although with COVID-19, she was unable to travel as much as she would have liked. She, however, had started attending Chair Yoga at the First United Church in Truro with her friend, Judy.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff who were working in the CEHHC Emergency Department on the day that Mom passed. You are all truly beautiful souls who are doing the work you were destined to do. We especially want to thank Dr. Tim Holland, Courtney Jayasinghe, RN, and Kathy Leadlay, paramedic, along with all of the staff who helped with Mom’s care. Special thanks to Dr. Don Rowe for the many years of wonderful care she received from you, you are a wonderful, gifted man whom she had the privilege of knowing for many years.

Donations in Liz’s name may be made to Spinal Cord Research at Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia) (thespine.ca) or a charity of your choice.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 20th from 2 – 4 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St. Truro, NS. COVID -19 restrictions in place. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
