Obituary for Mark Shepherd

Shepherd, Mark Edward – Age 71, Truro, lived most of his adult life in Halifax. He moved to Truro two years ago to be closer to family. Mark passed away peacefully on June 7, 2022, surrounded by family in his sister and brother-in-law, Deb and Pete’s home.

Mark was born in Halifax on December 24, 1950 – an extra special Christmas present that year! Mark and his brother, Mike owned and operated the Wyse Owl Beverage Room in Dartmouth in the 1970’s, a place famous for its music and good times. Mark spent the rest of his working life serving people their favourite beverages with a smile and keeping them entertained with his quick wit. He ended his career at Jenny’s in Halifax, where he is still loved and missed by customers. With a great love of travel, Mark’s favourite place to visit was Mexico, where he spent most of his winters after retirement. Mark had the most kind and gentle soul, and we are already feeling a huge void in our lives.

Mark was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Mary (Tobin) Shepherd; brother, Mike and niece, Toni.

He is survived by his sisters, Nancy, Sheilagh and his favourite baby sister, Debbie and brother-in-law, Pete Chisholm; stepdaughter, Andrea Miller (Adan) and their children, Alexandria and Antonio. He had many nieces and nephews, but had a very special place in his heart for his niece, Kate and nephew, Iain and their families.

We would like to thank both the VON and the Palliative Care team in Truro for working so hard to support us in our goal to keep Mark at home with us. You provided us a level of service, support and guidance we desperately needed and will be forever grateful for.

If desired, donations may be made to the VON.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no service, at Mark’s request. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences are available at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
