Obituary for William "Bill" Handspiker

Handspiker, William Stephen – Truro. It is with great sadness that we, the family, of William Stephen Handspiker, announce his sudden passing on September 1, 2022, at the age of 80 years.

Bill will be remembered by his children, Stephen Handspiker, Wendy Handspiker (Shelley), Maryann Tremblay (Donnie); grandson, Tyler Langille; siblings, John (Shirley), Ben (Else), Peggy (Mike), Lorna (Mike), Linda (Rusty), Pauline (Mike); as well as many beloved family members and friends, including, the Dale family, Langille family, Adshade family, Northup family and Stevenson family.

Bill was predeceased by his loving wife, Sandra Noreen Handspiker; father, Laurence; and mother, Mary Crooks.

Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His door was always open, and he was always willing to help if he could. Many friends of the family thought of him as a father figure. Bill was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 50 years. He started his career in the Truro Fire Brigade and was still an active member of the North River Fire Brigade at the time of his passing. He also was an instructor at the Waverly Fire School for 25 years. Bill (Spike) was involved with many different sport leagues throughout the years. He enjoyed baseball, umpiring, curling, bowling, and dart league. He will be missed forever and always.

Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Fire School or CEHHC “We Care About Cancer”.

Cremation has taken place. A Firefighter Tribute will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. NS.
