Obituary for Cecil "Mick" Ward

Ward, Cecil, “Mick” Lionel – Age 90, New Glasgow. It is with sad and heavy hearts that Mick’s family announce his passing on September 9th, 2022, in New Glasgow. Mick was a loving husband, a treasured father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Mick was born in Eureka, Pictou County, one of seven siblings who all grew up on the family farm. From the time he could remember, Mick heard and watched the trains go past at the back of the property, instilling in him his life-long love of the railroad and the mighty trains that ran on those rails.

He grew up to build a beautiful family with his wife of sixty-four years, Betty, and was a devoted father to daughters, Cheryl (Robert), Isabel (Reiner), Jo-Ann (Paul), Karla (Peter) and their son, Samuel (Sam) Edward Ward, who predeceased Mick in 2020. He was a beloved Gramps to many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he adored.

Everyone who knew Mick, knew that his unconditional love for his family was always the most important and cherished part of his life. His loyalty to friends never wavered. It was just simply a part of who he was. Mick was quick with a joke, a kind word, or a wink that made you laugh.

Mick heard that last beautiful train whistle blowing from heaven, and he knew that the next stop was for him. Fly high, Mick, we know that you are riding the rails with the angels now.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Micks memory may be made to Diabetes Canada or Canadian Lung Association - COPD.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 13th from 6-8pm with a Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, September 14th at 2pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS, with Eileen Corah officiating.
