Obituary for Elsie McIntosh (Yorke )

McIntosh, Elsie May – Bass River. It is with profound sadness our family announces the passing of Elsie May (Yorke) McIntosh; our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on October 19, 2022. Elsie was a daughter of the late Maude and Walter Yorke of Five Islands.

Mom enjoyed her flower gardens, visiting with her egg customers, and working in the family meat shop. She made beautiful crochet doilies and was known for her delicious homemade bread, pickles, and peanut butter cookies, which she kept on hand for her grandkids. The teapot was always on for anyone who visited. Most of all, Mom loved her family.

She is survived by her children, Sherry (Terry), Glen, Bruce, John (Stephanie); sister, Mina; her much loved grandchildren, Kyle (Melissa), David (Miranda), Kelly (Austin), Allison (Michael) and Kate. She leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Brendan, Cullen, Ewan, Trent, Teegan, Landon, Blake, Caryss, Josh and Jase; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Floyd; sisters, Neva, Gwendolyn (in infancy), Marilyn, Brenda, Beryl; brothers, Paul, Alton, Hollis, Cecil, Carmen, Kenneth, Royce, and twin brother, Walter.

Donations in Elsie’s memory may be made to the Community Palliative Care or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Bass River Baptist Church, Bass River, NS. Reception to follow in Victoria Hall. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences available at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
