Obituary for Inez Weir (Phinney)

WEIR, Inez Minerva – Age 86, Truro, passed away peacefully November 20, 2022, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Lower Five Islands, she was the last surviving child of the late James and Evelyn (Eagles) Phinney.

Inez began her working life as a waitress in Truro. She then moved on to retail at Nova Headware. She also took various courses in bookkeeping and worked in the Credit Office for Zellers. She continued employment as a bookkeeper for various businesses in Truro and surrounding area until her retirement.

It would be an understatement to say that Inez loved fashion. This was very obvious when anyone met her. She was an avid crafter, decorator and sewer of many beautiful treasures, benefiting friends and family.

She loved BINGO! For sure, it gave her a great sense of excitement and adventure. Many long-lasting friendships were made there in the hall. Inez was a multitasker. She could watch your cards as well as her own!

Inez was a Legion member, participated in local bowling leagues and was especially active in the Truro Heights United Baptist church where she initiated several themed fund raisers and events. She was a great organizer!

She is survived by Ellis, her loving husband of 69 years and their four children, Susan (Eber) Serieys, Wolfville, Vicky (David) Stretch, Fairview, PEI, Sonya (Stephen) Parks, Greenfield, Bruce (Beth) Weir, Kentville as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be so dearly missed by all.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Vera Yorke, Doris (Peggy) Yorke, Mildred LeBlanc, Audrey MacKenzie; brothers, Clinton and Eldon Phinney; granddaughter, Jenna Weir.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Nurses in the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester East Hants Heath Center for their compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 27th at 2:00 p.m. in Truro Heights United Baptist Church, Truro Heights with Pastor Connie Stewart officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service in the church. Donations may be made in memory of Inez Weir to the Truro Heights United Baptist Church or to a local charity of choice.
