Harold Alvin "Papa"  MacKenzie
MacKenzie, Harold Alvin “Papa” – 84, Lower Harmony passed away peacefully July 11, 2012 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro with his loving family by his side. Born in Harmony on April 7, 1928 he was the son of the late Ira Vernon MacKenzie and Ethel Irene (Smith)(MacKenzie) Archibald. Harold began his working career at Meadowvale Dairy and later worked for Moirs Ltd. before becoming a private business owner. He ran a general store and delivery service for several years and worked for Canada Post as a rural mail contractor for 10 years. He finished his working career as a dispatcher for the Department of Transportation from which he retired in 1993 at the age of 65. Harold enjoyed the company of others and spent summers of retirement with his beloved wife and family camping on the North Shore. He loved playing poker and cribbage and was always up for a game. He is survived by his loving wife, Blanche (Wright) MacKenzie; children, David (Karen, Dave, Kelsey, Lindsay) MacKenzie, Barry (Susan, Danny, Timmy, Cindy, Julie) MacKenzie, Wade MacKenzie, Tracey (Tanya, Kristina, Kyle) MacKenzie, Susan (JD and David Snook, Scott Standen), Marianne (Barrie, Keegan, Drew, Jesse) Clark and Janet (Stephen, Michael, Jeffrey, Sarah), Bagnell; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Kayleigh and Rylee MacKenzie; brothers, Arthur and Hazen MacKenzie; sisters-in-law, Alice Wright, Doris, Barb, Helen and Vera MacKenzie; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Roy, Ernest, Howard, Russell and Floyd; sisters, Helen and Ernestine; brothers-in-law, Don Grant, Francis and Donald Wright; sisters-in-law, Doris Wright, Betty, Irene and Margaret MacKenzie. There will be no visitation by request of the family. A service celebrating Harold’s life will take place on Saturday, July 14 at 2 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Sue King-Darby officiating. A private family interment will take place in Harmony Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
