Obituary for Moira Grace Moore

Moira Grace Moore
Moira Grace Moore, 1942- 2016, noted organist and music teacher has lost her courageous battle with cancer and its complications and has left us for a better place. Born in Roslyn, Scotland to John and Isabel Kay, Moira and her family emigrated to Canmore, Alberta in 1948. Moira graduated from Mount Royal College in Calgary and went on to study at Acadia University receiving a degree in Music. She taught piano, organ and voice for over 40 years and has been a church organist and choir director in the United Church of Canada. Moira was also assistant organist at Acadia University’s Manning Memorial Chapel. When her husband, Roger served in the Cobequid Pastoral Charge, she created the “Lighthouse Community Choir” that sang and travelled for a number of years along the Fundy Shore. Her interests were varied and she loved to read literature about Victorian England and the class system within which the upper elitists lived a life of comfort and wealth and the poor lived a destitute life of poverty and sickness. Always interested in the clothing of that era, hairstyles and hats, she directed for a number of years “A Victorian Christmas” with acting, singing and frivolity. Believing also that we live in a world of many dimensions, Moira loved the unusual, the mysterious, the supernatural and the mystical. These interests led her into the devotion to Celtic Christianity of which she was a solitary follower, using the hymns, psalms and meditation to be with the Divine. Predeceased by her beloved daughter, Anthea, Moira is lovingly freed from the earthly bonds and left to mourn are her dear husband, Rev. Roger Moore; daughters, Amy (Terry King), Claire (Kirk Van Blarcom); Roger’s daughters, Tanya (Fran Golden), Elizabeth (Donald Burke). She also leaves loving grandchildren, Tessa King, Brendan King, Declan King, Paul Moore, Cody Burke, Kiersten Moore, Emma Burke, Tiana Burke, as well as Stephen Moore, Tyler Moore, Mia, Alexander and Nicholas. Survived also by beloved brother, Stuart (Marie); niece, Jennifer (David) and grandniece, Mya in Australia as well as cousin, Mary Masson of Edmonton, Alberta. Granting Moira’s own wishes, there will be no formal visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place and at a later date there will be a private reflection and scattering of her ashes. A life well lived. Donations in Moira’s memory may be made to First United Church, Truro or charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
