Charles Shearer
Shearer, Charles Morgan – age 87, of Hilden, N.S. passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning, May 20, 2017. Born in Hilden, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Edwards) Shearer. Over the years, he worked for Barnhills Transport, Halliday Craftsmen, Eastern Transport and Route Cda. He played hockey with the Hilden Owls, softball with Hilden and Onslow and loved to dance. We will miss his witty quips and sense of humor. Charlie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maxine (Hingley); sons, Steve (Connie), Vince (Marion), Charles-Tyke; daughters, Aileen (Terry) Flewelling, Lynn (Greg McFadden), Roberta; grandchildren, Angie (Mike) Francis, Julie (Chris) Higgins, Robert Shearer; great grandchildren, Jordan, Zoe, Josie, Taylor; sisters, Sylvia Anderson, Norma Shearer, both of Victoria, BC; sister-in-law, Phyllis Shearer. Charlie was predeceased by siblings, Vincent, Arthur, Roberta and Lucy; brothers-in-law, Ray Anderson and Frank Silver. Special thanks to Dr. Neil Bower, Fran, and the VON support team of Nurses, Respite care and Home Support, who enabled him to spend his last years in his much-loved home, watching the birds, deer and Bo-Bo. Charlie has requested his remains be donated to Dalhousie Medical Research. There will be no funeral, as per his request. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24 from 1-3 p.m. in the Hilden Fire Hall, 1414 Highway 2, Hilden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VON.
