Condolence: Frances and family I was very saddened to hear that Gerard lost his battle with cancer. He was a great guy who was always willing to help others. He had many talents and could talk to anyone. I appreciated his expertise running and judging plowing matches.
He will be missed by many.

Condolence: I was very sad to first hear of Gerard's cancer and then to hear that he died. Gerard always had a happy smile and kind words whenever I saw him. A truly kind and friendly person. When my oldest daughter was to take her driving test, she was very relieved when I and the instructor starting chatting like old friends - it was Gerard and we almost forgot about the driving test!

I've known all of you, Gerard's family, for many years, and it is always great to talk to you on the infrequent times when I see you. Just like Gerard, you are all kind and friendly people and I send my condolences and thoughts to you at this sad time.

Condolence: Dear Frances, Allan and Ann Terese: my sincere condolences are being sent to you all. Had I not met Gerard at the funeral home back in the fall, where he told me of the difficulties of the past five years ; I would be completely blown away to read his obituary. He told me he was as "weak as a kitten", and of all the treatments that he had endured. Oh my, a well fought battle. I had the opportunity to be on many projects (as the photographer) that Gerard and others from the engineering branch worked on. Gerard was always in the field and would be the first to run for tools when something would go wrong. He never got the "glory" of making many of the department machinery trials a success. I saw it time and time again...Gerard's heart and soul were invested in his career at the Department. Gerard gave so much to the department, he was a familiar face at the Rick Russell Woodsman Competition, he was there bright and early with his score sheet and stop-watch...this was long before the competitions were moved inside to a warmer climate at the NSPE grounds. When Rick Russell was diagonised with cancer, many of his class mates pitched in and made sure the traveling bar-be-cue pit moved forward, Gerard was always there helping out. Gerard was extremely proud of his children, Allan following in his father's footsteps becoming an engineer and Ann Terease, becoming a dietitian. Gerard told me when Anne Terese could not find employment in the nutrition/dietitian field; she recently went back to school. Talk about perseverance! Frances, I remember the first time I met you, it was at Christmas party at Perry and Cheryl's home on Bright Avenue. You were so quiet and gracious. You would be the designated driver that night, ...I was also told you both would attend Mass the next morning ...Gerard liked a good time but knew the value of having a very healthy relationship with The Creator, his family and his community. Gerard's service on the Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade was no different than how he approached all his work...full steam ahead. There wasn't a lazy bone in Gerard's body. Gerard was an amazing person, who never shied away from all that was put on his plate. Know that his suffering has ended, his days are now full of tools and old motors...he is in his happy place. God Bless.
Sincerely: Sheila Ferguson

Condolence: Sincere condolences to Gerard’s family. We are both old classmates of Gerard’s and fondly remember how he always brought excitement. We ran into Gerard a couple of times in the past year, once on the ferry while he and Jimmie were returning home from PEI. We had a great time reminiscing. The world lost a great guy. — Ron and Catherine MacGillivray

Condolence: Frances, Allan, Ann Terese
Yvonne and I are so sad to hear of Gerard's passing. He was always a loyal and trusted friend from the time we first met at NSAC. He was always there to lend a hand when needed and over the years we shared many long conversations as friends and co-workers ... sometimes over the occasional brew :). Those conversations always included an update on what was happening back home, projects he was working on, and what you all were doing as he was so proud of the family you've created. Gerard was one of a kind and will be missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
