Obituary for Doris Patterson (Smith)

Doris Patterson passes away at 104
PATTERSON, Doris Geneve — passed into the arms of her Lord on May 20th, 2010 at her home in Stewiacke in her 104th year. Doris was born in Somerville, MA, the beloved daughter of Elmer Smith and Mabel Newcomb. She was predeceased by Hugh Ross, husband of 63 years. She was also predeceased by her sons, Robert Denys and Ian Smith Patterson, as well as one granddaughter, two grandsons and her brother, Wilson A. Smith. She is survived by daughters, Marilyn Fraser; Donna Grace (Al) Bahlke; Margaret Burrell; Carol (Don) Fraser; Sybil (Bill) McCurdy; Sylvia (Don) Wilkins; Ruby (Allen) Ramsland and Doris (Kerry) Gardner; 22 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters. An active member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Doris attended her Monday Bible Study faithfully until early March of this year. She was a member of the Social Circle, a life member of the Atlantic Mission Society and a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Myrtle Chapter. After moving from the US to Amherst at the age of 6, she spent the first 20 years of married life in Thomson Station, raising her family and working as Postmistress. Doris moved to Truro in 1948. Special thanks to the VON, PCW's and Palliative Care who made it possible for Mom to remain in her home and "be left in peace". Visitation will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. on Sunday evening in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with a celebration of her life on Monday at 2 p.m. in St. James Presbyterian Church, 725 Prince St., Truro with Dr. Brian Ross officiating.
