Obituary for Gordon "Larry" Kinsman

Gordon "Larry" Kinsman
Kinsman, Gordon “Larry” – Age 74, Great Village With sadness, we announce the passing of Larry Kinsman on July 8th, 2022, after a battle with cancer.

He was the son of the late Gordon and Jean (Stronach) Kinsman of Kingston.

The much-loved husband of 50 years to Judi, proud and loving father of Gregg Kinsman (Terri-Lynn) of Great Village and Wendy Kinsman of New Minas.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Bethany, Garrett and Gage, who gave him many enjoyable and fun times, especially his last great inflatable dinosaur show. He loved them dearly and they loved Grampie.

He is also survived by his special, loving sister, Gloria Surridge (Embrun, ON) and family, and his sister-in-law, Velma Kinsman (Kingston) and family.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Murray Kinsman and brother-in-law, Bill Surridge.

He worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation as a survey technician for 35 years where he had many good friends and colleagues.

His life’s passion, other than his family, was the Volunteer Fire Service, to which he dedicated 56 years. He was a member of the Kingston Fire Department, Havelock Fire Department and the Great Village Fire Brigade, where he was serving as chief at the time of his passing. Over the years he worked with, trained and became friends with many who stood with him in good times and bad. He cherished the many years of friendship, fellowship and tall stories.

The family would like to offer a special heartfelt thank you to Angela McDonnell, Dr. Cortney Smith and Dr. Amanda Webster who cared for Larry with long talks, love and kindness. They provided so much support to the family as well. It certainly eased the journey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry’s honour may be made to the Great Village & District Fire Brigade or a Fire Brigade/Department of your choice.

A Fire Fighter’s Tribute service will be held on Thursday, July 14th at 6:30pm with webcasting to begin at 6:28pm (AST), followed by a visitation until 8pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St, Truro. An interment service will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 2pm in North Kingston Cemetery, Kingston for family and friends. An informal gathering to follow in the Kingston Fire Hall.
