Kathleen Akerman (Williams)
Akerman, Kathleen Mary “Kay” – Age 88, Truro. On August 28, 2023, Kathleen passed away peacefully in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, following a lengthy battle with kidney disease.

She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Dick; her children, Tim Brennan and Maureen Brennan, both of Truro; grandson, Matthew Brennan (Kendra) and great grandson, Jack Brennan, all of Halifax; step-children, Kevin Akerman, Karen (Jay) Bond of Truro, Leslie MacMichael of Halifax, and their respective families; sisters, Clare Walker and family of Victoria, BC, Peggy (Art) Gilbert of Halifax and special aunt, Alice Finn of St. John’s, NL.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Williams and Marcella Lee; son, Sean; infant daughter, Clare; brothers, John, Brian, Terry and Kevin; former husband, John Brennan.

Born in Bay Roberts, NL, Kathleen graduated from Mt. St. Bernard College (St. FX) and began her working career with the Federal Government in St. John’s, NL. Following her marriage and the births of her children, the family moved to Nova Scotia where she returned to her career as a court reporter and judicial secretary in the Family, County and Supreme Courts of Nova Scotia. Kathleen retired in 1994 from the Department of Justice following a long career.

Upon retirement, she and Dick built their beach house, “Arkadia,” in Five Houses. They shared an affection for gardens and “life at the shore”. She immensely enjoyed dinners with family and friends and the spirited conversations that ensued. Kathleen also enjoyed playing bridge with the girls. She and Dick were seasoned travelers, enjoying many adventures abroad. They spent winters in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and Victoria, BC. Kathleen was a past president of Truro Ladies Business Curling. As a volunteer and advocate for mental wellness, she served as a board member of CMHA for many years. Being a lifelong learner brought her to many courses at SCANS. Kathleen possessed an eclectic taste in music, art and books.

Her family expresses their thanks for the care Kathleen received from Dr. Ricardo Rendon in Halifax, Dr. Adam Aleksis in Truro and the staff of the Renal Unit in CEHHC. Her children express their gratitude to her husband, Dick, for the devotion and care given to their mother over many years.

In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation to St. Vincent de Paul Society in her memory.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 12:15pm in the Immaculate Conception Church, Truro, with Father Andrew Rembarczyk officiating. Reception to follow in Campbell Hall. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com

The best things in life are the people we love, the places we have been and the memories we made along the way.
