Obituary for Mary Gertrude Guadagnolo (Ranger)

Mary Gertrude Guadagnolo (Ranger)
Mary Gertrude Guadagnolo (Mar) - Age 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on January 29, 2024, in The Mira Long Term Care Home, Truro. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland but raised in Montreal Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude Bridget Ranger. It is in Montreal that she met and married her late husband, Franklyn Leon Guadagnolo who served in the Canadian Military (Navy).

As a military wife, Mary demonstrated unwavering strength, resilience and adaptability in supporting her husband’s career and raising a family. As a result, Mary developed her own sense of determination, strong will and quick wit. However, she will also be remembered for her kindness and big smile.

For many years, she volunteered her time with both the Dartmouth General Hospital and the IWK. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, making many blankets, mittens and scarves for various charities in Dartmouth. Always active, she loved to swim – whether in the ocean or the pool. Water aerobics became a favorite pastime for her. She was an avid bowler, winning several trophies for high score as well as played many games of darts. Her love for animals was very evident but her true treasure was her beautiful cat, “Buppy.”

Mary was predeceased by her mother, Gertrude Ranger; loving husband of 48 years, Frank Guadagnolo; several nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter, Nancy (Alan) and many friends.

Her family wishes to thank Tirzah McNutt, NP for her kind words and the staff of The Mira Long Term Care Home for their loving care and support. The VON of Truro were a wonderful help to Mary while she still lived in her home prior to her move to The Mira. Special thanks to family, friends and neighbors for their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Colchester SPCA, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choosing.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13th from 6 - 8:00pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, Nova Scotia. A graveside service will take place in the spring of 2024 in Mt. Hermon Cemetery, Dartmouth.
