Obituary for Kathleen Quigley (Harris)

Quigley, Kathleen M., 98, Parkland Estates, Truro, formerly of Halifax, died in Colchester Regional Hospital on April 24, 2007 following a brief illness. Born in Canning on November 8, 1908, Kay was the youngest daughter of the late Joseph A. and Laura (Chipman) Harris, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She studied at Horton Academy in Wolfville before moving to Truro to work at Truro Wholesalers Ltd. and later moved to Halifax where she worked at Crown Diamond Paints and L. J. Quigley Ltd. until her retirement. Kay was an avid sportswoman in her youth, and an enthusiastic hockey and curling fan right to the end of her long and fiercely independent life. Her greatest pleasures included the company of her many friends and family, and spending summers at her cottage on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. Kay is survived by her step-daughter, Gwyneth Craik, Tsawwassen, BC; nieces, Geraldine (John) Hilchey, Truro, Jacqueline Bagwell, Exeter, England; nephews, John McElhiney, Truro, Courtenay (Lynn) Popple, Honiton, England; step-grandchildren, Sharon (James) Kenney, Delta, BC and Canmore, AB; Heather (Ernst) Moser, Dunrobin, ON; David (Anne) Quigley, Halifax; Candace Quigley, Halifax; Ross (Elaine) Craik, Wolfville; Beverly (Tom) Verge, Halls Harbour; Norma Banks, Canmore, AB; Ronald Craik, Calgary, AB; grandnephews, Robert Hilchey, Truro; David (Carol) Hilchey, Otter Point; many great-grandchildren and great-grandnephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leonard J. Quigley; sisters, Josephine (McElhiney) Eaton, Dorothy Popple; brother, William C. Harris; step-son, Ross (Louise) Quigley. Cremation has taken place and a family graveside interment service will be held at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Memorial donations in Kay’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your personal choice.
