Obituary for John Petrie

John  Petrie
Petrie, John Bernard, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Truro on July 14, 2007. Born November 19, 1939 in New Waterford, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late John Bernard and Hilda (MacDonald) Petrie. John was an electrician who retired from LaFarge Canada in 1998 after 30 years. After his retirement he started his own business â€" Petrie’s Electric which he worked at until his passing. John loved his summer home in Millertown, NL, where he spent many weeks relaxing and sightseeing. John enjoyed seasonal hunting, his weekly Dart League at the Horseman’s Club, and spending time with his family and friends. John also supported a local ball team â€" Petrie’s Electric. He is survived by his daughter Helen Ivan) Stewart, Hilden; son, David, Truro; grandchildren, Johnathan Stewart, Hilden, Krystal and Katie Petrie, both of Ontario ; great-grandson Damion, Ontario; his companion, Sheila Morrisey, Truro; brothers, William (Anne), Balls Creek, Cape Breton, Stephen (Lillian)), St. Peter’s Bay, P.E.I., George (Carolyn), West Bay Road, sisters, Marilyn Johnston, Hilden, Harriet Petrie, Sydney, Helen (Carl) Fougere, Havre Boucher; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Hull). Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 19th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Truro. A Funeral mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street on Friday, July 20th at 11:00 am. Reception in Campbell Hall followed by the interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. Donation in John’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
