Obituary for William "Bill" Stewart

William "Bill" Stewart
STEWART, William Carlyle - Age 85, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully with family present in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on May 25, 2023. He was born to the late Bill and Violet (Clark) Stewart.

Bill grew up in Middle Stewiacke, later moving to Brookfield, and eventually, Bible Hill. After school, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, posted north of 60 with close friend, Hugh Matheson, in the late 1950's. Most of his working life was spent in Truro as a letter carrier for Canada Post. He was a diehard supporter - like his mother – of Brookfield Elks hockey and fastpitch softball teams. He also enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs play. In his later years, he learned to play the guitar and would often perform with his friends at open mics.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon (MacPhee); children, Brenda (Mike) Henderson, Terry (Maureen Foster), Glen (Susan Hamilton), Patty (Rob Smith), and Greg Stewart; step-daughters, Lorraine (Brenton) Crowe, Connie (Dale) Martin; brothers, Don Rutherford, and Jerry (Marilyn) Stewart; grandchildren, Dane, Kyle, Caila, Matthew, Krysten, Drew, Kristy, Justin, Danielle, Grace, Elek; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by half-brothers, Fred and Lewis Rutherford; his first wife, Shirley (Ross) Comeau; daughter-in-law, Krista (Veenhuis) Stewart.

Sharon and family wish to express their gratitude to the health care team at CEHHC and the VON, and for the friends who visited and sent well wishes during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VON, Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or Alcoholics Anonymous.

Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside burial to be held at a later date. We will be having a Celebration of Life on Monday, June 12th from 12:30pm – 2:30pm in the Bible Hill Fire Hall for all to come and remember Bill. Online condolences may be made at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
