Obituary for Alice Feeley

Alice Feeley
Alice Muriel Feeley (Lingard) died on Wednesday March 6, 2024, in Truro at the age of 83 with her family by her side. Alice was born on April 13, 1940, in Moose Brook, Nova Scotia and lived most of her life in Truro, Nova Scotia. Alice was a daughter of the late Ray and Myrtle (McCulloch) Lingard.

Alice grew up on the family farm in Moose Brook and attended school in the area. When she left Moose Brook, she headed to the big city, Truro where she started working for Bentley’s. While in Truro, as fate would have it, she ran into a couple Feeley girls and they introduced her to their brother, Bernie, and Alice and Bernie hit it off and started a life together.

Alice was very close with her side of the family, and with ten brothers and sisters (George, Anderson, Norman, Ralph, Don, Minerva, Maggie, Nora, Annie, Louise) there was always some excitement to be had. She was also equally close with Bernie’s family and with his eight brothers and sisters (Joe, Charlie, Johnny, Anne, Sally, Romaine, Helen, Jeannie) there was also lots going on. Nieces and nephews number over a hundred, and for that reason, we will not be writing down all the names but know that she loved all of you.

Alice and Bernie were happily married for 60 years and lived in the same house on Hingley Avenue all of those years, where they raised three boys (Jim, David and Paul). Alice had a wonderfully dry sense of humour and a very quick wit to keep you on your toes. She was a loving mother, proud grandmother and respected member of the community. Alice saw many comings and goings on the street over the years and made some very close and long-lasting friendships. If you couldn’t find her at home, all you needed to do was look up towards Victoria Park where you could find her on the tennis courts, and if you were looking for her in the winter season, you could find her on the slopes in Wentworth.

Alice traveled a fair amount in her later years with many great trips in North America and Europe with Bernie, Anne and Ben. Playing cards was a great source of entertainment…many a game of 45’s, Golf, Hand and Foot, Wizard and Rummy. While playing cards, you would undoubtedly be munching on a freshly made molasses cookie or sugar donut.

Alice is survived by her loving husband, Bernie and sons, Jim (Julie), David (Marsha), and Paul (Daniela). She is also survived by five adoring grandkids, Kara, Natasha, Adam, Clara, and Max. Alice was a generous and kind-hearted soul and she will be immensely missed by those who were lucky enough to have known her.

No flowers at family's request.

Alice was never an advocate for any one charity, though she was a supporter of many. She never missed a Terry Fox run and Parkinson’s was an unfortunate part of her late life. She would undoubtedly encourage you to give to your own personal charity.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday March 12, 2024, at 10:30am in the Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Alice has requested no viewing or gathering. As always, if you want to pop by the house in the coming weeks and have a visit, please do so.
